Is it ok to use a wired lav mic directly with the Pro I/O module?

What about for monitoring the output? There is a 5-pin XLR output, but I will just be using headphones. Is the headphone jack on the brain accurate?

I am starting with just sit down interviews but want to go wireless eventually. Which is the best lav?

Any other recommendations? Keep on mind I will eventually get a SD MixPre-D, a wireless system, and also a boom mic. Just want something good to start.

Always used Sennheiser or BeyerDynamic lavs in the broadcast world. But i'm certain for controlled internal interviews any decent mic will do..

Not got the I/O module but I cannot see any reason for a direct connection.

So you recommend a mixer? Maybe I should just sell the Pro I/O Module and buy the Sound Devices 664. Is anyone using the Pro I/O for audio? I mainly bought it so I can have the EVF and Touchscreen LCD at the same time. But the +1 Module will give me that soon....

oops, sorry.. My mistake... I cannot see any PROBLEM with a direct connection....

I assume the headphones will give a usable level of foldback but the level meter is your friend and as long as there is no clipping then it should be ok in post..

Sorry again for the mistyping.... I'd just connect the mic straight into the I/O and set levels in the camera...

But thats my old BetaSP days from the BBC.. It just worked... But can't see why it wont in the RED

my thoughts and outlook exactly....

I've used a Maplin (£20) wired lav mic for two high profile (easyJet) interviews and all my wedding groom's mics. It takes 2 button cell batteries to give it phantom power. It's really cheap but actually does the job... So buy wisely and you'll be fine.. Sennheiser/Beyer/Sony/AGK - all have a range of sensible mics all the way up to £2K plus..

Good luck and keep in touch.
