I've been looking for a good 3D projector because I can't view that at the moment. So I've been looking at these two but can't figure out why the 90ES is better (it's a lot more expensive then the 30ES). Someone who knows anything about these who could point to which one would be the best?

Sony VPL-HW30ES
Sony VPL-VW90ES

According to some specs I've seen the 30ES seem to have improvements to the 90ES, better crosstalk, lighter glasses etc.
Though it's contrast is 70000:1 compared to the 90ES: 150000:1. I also don't know about the colors, the 90ES is said to have 10-bit, while I don't know what the 30ES has.

I'm interested in having one for professional work but I'm not near the budget of the big boys projectors. 30ES seems to be a very good projector, but I'm not sure.

Is there any LED LCD's who might be better when speaking 3D? Or is a projector the best option?

30ES is the newly developed model with 2nd-generation 3D. They're trying to beat the JVC RS40 / X3 with it, I think, which has pretty good 2D and 3D image quailty and a pretty good price.

90ES is the old model, which was not particularly good value for money IMHO. They will probably replace it with the 95ES in Sept (eg CEDIA, when most of the projectors are announced - though stuff only ships around Jan).

Personally the best to me right now seems to be the JVC RS40 / X3. It doesn't auto-iris - so its contrast ratio is actualy, real contrast. It lacks good color management though so you'd want to have some sort of LUT / color management box involved. The versions which do have color management built in (RS50, RS60) are more expensive than a RS40 plus color management box.

Anyway, a lot of research is involved. Good luck! Also, check them out yourself and decide, I say.

And yes everything will likely be replaced by LED or Laser based 4K projectors in a few years :)

I saw the JVC RS60 at HPA and it was quite nice for both 2D and 3D. The 50 and 60 has color management via Spectracal as seen here:

I am considering this one for the next two films I'll be working on - the first in 2D and the second in 3D.
