I thought I'd start this thread so we could get an idea of what others experience in terms of performance, with the REDCINE software. Hopefully this will make specing up a new workstation a little easier. To keep things consistent, please provide the following info in format similar to below (I'll use my specs as an example):

OS: Windows 7 x64
CPU: Intel Q9450 Quad-Core (2.66Ghz)
RAM: 8GB

Footage Format: R3D, 4K, 24fps
Performance:
100% Real-time at 1/2 Res. Medium
70% Real-time at 1/2 Res. High
Comes to a complete crawl at any higher setting.
Notes: All four cores work at 95% when on 1/2 Res. Medium, and of course at 100% when trying to playback on 1/2 Res. High. RAM usage sits on about 55% (4.4GB) when playing back a 1GB 4k R3D file.

OS: WinXP PRO 64bit
CPU: i7 920 Nehalem/D0 stepping/ overclocked at 4GHz
RAM: 6GB Patriot extreme Low Latency

Footage Format: R3D, 4K, 24fps
Performance: 100% RT at Half High and below / 8% RT(2-3fps) at Full medium/high

Notes: all cores(4 real and 4 virtual-HT) at around 55% for HH. They go down to 22% for Half Medium and 17% for Quarter High.
Memory usage is around 3GB for a construct with 13clips totaling around 12GB worth of footage.

I'll be interested in Tom and Bogdan's performance after installing a Red Rocket. Either of you guys order one?

I'm personally waiting for the scarlet, and to be honest, don't have any plans on purchasing a RED Rocket. I'm currently testing performance on R3D files I've downloaded from the net.

The system I described above is my home rig, no RED Rocket for that :(
At work, however, we'll definitely get at least one. Might go in a Nehalem 8core Mac or in our GlobalStor system(similar config to mine) running Scratch.

Thanks, guys! It will be interesting to see if Redcine-x can improve on those numbers as well.

What graphics cards and drivers are you guys using?

Bogdan, what sort of cooling are you using? Are you still on air at 4Ghz, and what sort of temps are you getting at idle and load?

'What graphics cards and drivers are you guys using?'
NVidia 8800GTS soft modded(via RivaTuner) to QuadroFX4600/190.38 drivers

'Bogdan, what sort of cooling are you using? Are you still on air at 4Ghz, and what sort of temps are you getting at idle and load?'
Scythe Ninja cooler(air) idle~42-45/full load~76-80

Tom,

I can't provide hard numbers, but IIRC,my system is pretty close to what you are getting. I have 9550@3GHz, 8Gb lowLat ram and 275NVidia and a 7800 for the "menu" Dell 2408.

When I get the system working again I will get hard numbers. (Nephews checked their "email" while I was on a shoot this weekend, now Vista64 is a no-show
