  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What next on RED?

I am +1 here. Whether it's a native mount that we have rigid adapters, like the DSCM3 PL, or a full removable mount.

RF helps with adapted a great deal of lenses. Z-Mount gets us a lot more with more possibilities.

For those who aren't as nerdy on that front. Z-Mount is the shortest flange depth bayonet mount for S35, FF35, and VV. A very interesting difference 4mm makes, but newer Nikon Z, Sony E, L-Mount, and Hasselblad XCD become possible. C-Mount already works within the RF, but it's easier on Z.

And to give a good firm handshake, for the formats typically associated with RF and Z, both Canon and Nikon did a great job on these new mirrorless mounts from a technology standpoint as well as some of the more technical dimensional wiggles when adapting lenses. Specifically the inner diameter of the mount itself.
What are the implications of Z-mount regarding adaptation to LPL?

Cheers.

Yeah, a price drop on the monitor and adding a 5" would be a nice move. No reason that monitor can't be 1500. The kit prices were also updated, with no extra discount for the monitors so that's probably not happening soon.

If my komodo OG smashed to bits tomorrow, I would just get a used OG. If I was buying new, the KX great. But I'm gonna hold off on upgrades cuz I love OG and I think sub 15k VV GS is on the horizon. (Years, don't care).
100% - I love the monitor, but I cannot justify spending that money when I know it's proprietary to DSMC3. I would pay $1500 though because I do really like it, but for nearly $3000, I just cannot justify it personally. That's some serious lens money.

Very doable and there are currently LPL Lens to Z-Mount Body adapters from C7Adapters, Simmod, Fotodiox, etc.

No issues with any currentl lenses I know of as well.

Z mount should be the most versatile mount. If you look at the daimeter and the flange, it should adapt to almost anything while also offering the most flexibility in lens and sensor design options too.

Considering the new announcements by Canon and the latest RED price drops I do have some hope that there might be one final push for some firmware updates on Komodo OG.
Enhancing Autofocus modes would make more sense on a Komodo class camera with a user base that would be more likely to use it.

I sent my request list to RED. Hope they can make something happen.
