I can ac power it fine via the base expander. I've tried 2 anton battery plates and 2 different cables and i can't get it powered on via battery. Any ideas? One cable was a dtap to epic power cable. The other was the action products battery plate with the epic connector.

Ok so I attached the revolt XL module to the base expander and used the dc in port on the XL module and it works. So thats really weird and confirms its not the battery.

My base expander will ONLY take ac power, no battery power. How is this possible?

i dont think that confirms its not the battery, i noticed that the xl module is doing some type of power conditioning which can "fix" power issues. the xl module i found has some tricks it is doing, also i think the weapon power tolerences are a bit narrower then my scarlet, which i dont feel is a bad thing. the problem is testing if the battery has issues or if its a connector problem. ( the new anton baur charger i think has good diagnostics & charging algorithms). power issues can drive one crazy though.

I tried 2 connectors and two batteries of 2 different sizes on 2 battery plates

Sounds to me like there may be an issue with your Base Expander module. I am using the wired Wooden Camera Anton Bauer plate with the Base Expander on my MG and it's working fine.

I have a friend with the wooden plate I can test out

I had a bad base expander, red swapped it out

Thanks I'll contact my bomb squad guy ;)

[edit ... I btw have two base expanders, both have the same issue where I need to run through the XL module or the battery will cut out. This to means it's not a bad base expander per se, but that the initial run had a problem]
