  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Wanted, good light output at a small "footprint" on set.

Im looking to shrink the lights im using outside of the studio and hoping to collect some inspiration from this thread. I love the size of c-stands but with bigger lights they feels pretty unstable. Therefore a smaller light would perhaps fit nicely on a c-stand. I would not miss logging around studio stands.

So my questions is. What good lights do you have that you feel confident to use on C-stands or even C-stands with wheelbase that you like to recommend? Please do post images if you have any. It would help me out alot. Also if you feel that the C-stands is just to unstable perhaps you have another one that is just one size upp that you love. In that case do you have a good way to move it around on set. The problem those bigger tripods i use with wheels is that they get very wide at there base so you need to fold them down to move them then in a corridor.

I think that the area 48's is the ones that are on top off my list right now. Would like to se more pictures of them on c-stands and here if you think its enough for them.
Also the http://hexolux.com/ looks to be a good choice even with a softbox or umbrella on.

Hey Joel,

I have been looking for a portable light kit myself. I am keen on the Area 48's as well. My main concern is that sometimes I am in small spaces and need a light source that can be focused. That said, I am keeping my eye on the Hexolux group buy that Josh is heading up. The Hexolux looks like it may be the right solution for me. It provides the focus that I normally need but also looks like a good soft light source with the soft box attachment.

Check out the Cineo TrueColor. They are very powerful but very small. The LS is small but basically equivalent to a 2K soft light, and the larger HS is closer to a 4K source. When you see them in person, it's a shock to see how bright they are for being so small.

One or two LS heads would be great in a portable kit. And an HS is perfect for a light weight, low power, high output source on a C-Stand.
