Hi folks,

am currently offlining a short film in FCP and am going to Vegas 9.0 for the audio dub - I'm editing using the MOV proxies and was hoping using an EDL exported from FCP to to into Vegas replacing the MOV files with the original R3D files would leave me with a fully functioning edit in Vegas.

I could do the whole OMF export thing with handles but that doesn't give me the chance do do any picture edits if they're required at the dub stage. The reason why we're using FCP not Vegas for the edit before you ask is that I'm using someone else's suite that's more conveniently situated for the director. Even working with an experienced editor there's a vast amount of time difference using Vegas's editing interface versus FCP, I can edit so much faster in Vegas there really is no choice for workflow for me. It's the same for audio dubbing too - I've used ProTools and Nuendo but their interface is so inferior... anyhow, that's a whole different subject.

My problem is, Vegas only see the rec run timecodes not the TOD timecodes which are in the EDL exported from FCP so I when I replace the MOV clips with the R3D files it doesn't see the right part of the clip. I see someone has wrote a little script to remove one of the timecode tracks from Red's r3d files but only for mac - is there a PC equivalent out there or is there any way I work round this?

from my experience Vegas 2 to Vegas 9 ...
TC isn't going to matter ..Vegas will not import a EDL from FCP correctly .. i've tried ... had hired a FCP editor and we tried for a few days = wasted time & $$ .. also a friend hired a FCP editor ( editor had Vegas experience) last summer for 4 months and they could not get a FCP edl to Vegas ... they ran out of $$ for editor ..in the end they had to manually conform the FCP edit into Vegas to finish the project ....

IMO if you want to keep trying -you might try FCP to Avid then in Avid export a AAF ( instead of EDL) .. import the AAF into Vegas ...
Keep it simple ..no pan/crop , basic dissolves, straight cuts work best ,no CC ... no more then 2 video tracks with the audio ... no extra audio tracks ... all audio should be connected to video clips ... this may or may not work ?? i can say it works better then FCP to Vegas ..
