Hi everyone!

I just bought a used Epic X Dragon 6k and I'm learning all the ins and outs as I go, it's my first RED.

Something however has me completely stumped. I'm trying to set the ability to record audio in Verispeed and the option (Record varispeed audio in a separate WAV file) does not appear at all in the audio setting menu. Now, I know the first thought is that I don't have verispeed set...but it is. I've followed every step so far mentioned in the forums and from the RED website to set it up. I've watched videos and asked people on facebook and no one seems to have an answer. My software is up to date with the latest firmware and tried playing with every setting there is, at least I feel I have.

Does anyone have any idea what I might be missing or why this option doesn't even appear? If it was greyed out I might understand but I can't get it to come up at all.

On a side, what setting does this need to be on to hit 300fps? I can't seem to find that either.....

Thanks for the help everyone.

Hi Wayne, audio isn't recorded when in Varispeed mode -

"...RED DSMC OPERATION GUIDE_V5.2, REV-M...

AUDIO NOT RECORDED

SYMPTOMS
Audio channels do not display in the Audio Meter.
Cannot hear audio during playback.
Audio is not embedded in R3D file.

EXPLANATION
The DSMC disables recording audio when Varispeed or a special recording mode is enabled. The DSMC passes
audio to the headphones even if audio is not recorded...

You also have to get down to 2K WS (2.4:1) to hit 300fps.

It can be done with a DSMC2 camera, not a DSMC1 camera.

The document you linked to is for DSMC2 camera's.

'Dragon-X 6K S35' is the current DSMC2 camera that uses the Dragon sensor (there was also a 'Scarlet-W' that used it), while 'Epic-X (or Scarlet-X) Dragon 6K' is the DSMC1 camera that uses the Dragon sensor.

The DSMC2 camera bodies have more and different processing capabilities than the DSMC1 camera bodies. They also have different firmware installed, which explains why some options can't be seen in the DSMC1 camera menu.

It wasn't difficult to follow along and keep track of all the new camera releases as they happened, but trying to make sense of it all now is understandably confusing.

Someone should put together a reference chart that shows the timeline and all the permutations of RED camera sensor and body releases.
