Timelapse Instructions?

I have been looking around the net and haven't seen any instructions or tutorials on how to set up the timelapse mode on the new Beta V-Raptor build.

Anybody know of something?

Timelapse settings need to be enabled in the Project Settings. Switch Recording Mode from Motion to Timelapse there. This enables the Timelapse menu below the Recording Mode with settings for Interval Time and Frames per Interval. It might also be useful to set the Frame Limit to automatically stop later.

The Interval and Frames per Interval settings work like this: every <Interval> seconds, it takes <Frames per Interval> frames, then waits again <Interval> seconds, etc. until the total Frame Limit is reached. The Frames per Interval setting is nice because with that you can go beyond the maximum shutter time for each frame, by applying the Frame Average node in Fusion, for example.

I will start playing with it and see how it goes.

It seems like you don't get much leeway in the shutter speed in timelapse mode. Like if you wanted to shoot at night.

JUST Food for thought...
The frames taken in or during the interval are all taken as soon as they can be. Meaning that if you have 2, 1 second long frames in a 5 second interval they will be captured in the first 2 seconds of that 5 second interval. One frame at the start of the interval and the second frame immediately after the first frame. NOT EVENLY SPACED DURRING THE INTERVAL.
So when doing TL you should factor your interval from the end of your frames captured, not the total time of the interval.

Yes, the Frames per interval are actually NOT timelapsed but ongoing as in regular shots. If they were equally distributed over time, one could as well just multiply the Interval with that number. But in the way it works it can do "interesting" things like jumps, amongst other things. For example, with timebase 30fps, set Interval to 3 seconds, Shutter 1/30 and Frames per interval to 85, to skip 5 frames every 3 seconds.

(combined with Optical Flow frame interpolation)

I don't understand why when I am in Timelapse mode, the only shutter speed is 1/48 of a second.

Hi Brian, from what I found, Shutter × Interval is an upper limiter to Frames per Interval, but not the other way around, i.e. Shutter should show 1/24 to 1/8000 throughout. What are your other settings where you get only 1/48? And is 1/48 "the only" or just the longest one you see?

I have Interval set to 10 (seconds) 1 frame per interval. I don't have Frame limit enabled.
I can see 1/24 to 1/8000 in the menu if I select 1/24 it doesn't change it stays at 1/48. I can try to select any of the displayed shutter speeds - but the displayed Shutter always stays at 1/48.

The project rate is 24.00 which makes sense for shooting timelapse.

My first timelpase shooting (long ago) was with 35mm and the exposure length is a really important element

With the same settings, I can chose any of the available shutter times. Is the shutter turned yellow there? The only way I get this to stick at 1/48 is through RED Control after also changing shutter angle to 180 but not through the camera menus:



and even then I can easily override it back to 1/24 anytime. I'm a bit tempted to say Factory Reset now but it would be interesting to find what's different between our settings.

Thanks Alex! I was going to shoot a little video of what my experience was like, but the camera is going out on a shoot. So it will have to wait until it comes back.

I do all of the selection of settings on the 7" Touch screen. I haven't used the App. I had the camera set at 8K 2.4:1 R3D LQ.

I don't have my camera with me right now but is Frame Averaging or Frame Summing available yet in the menu.?? Using this during Time Laps will help a lot smooth out and average those few frames over a longer period of time..

Hey Alex when I try to watch this clip it says Im Unauthorized. Any suggestions?? I do have a Vimeo account so thats not it.

Hi Russ, not sure what attitudes Vimeo sometimes has, the video was set to "Hide from Vimeo" and embeddable Anywhere, so in my understanding it should work for everyone. I just changed it to Public now, can you try this again?
Recently, another guy was prompted to create an account and couldn't see one of the videos whereas no one else got such prompt, and we found that it was apparently due to the browser he used because a different one then worked without creating an account.

yes, it would be good to have an option for a long exposure setting on time-lapse. Right now only 24 shutter does not create those great, night time urban "light streaks" shots.

I don't have my camera with me but is there no Frame Summing or Frame Averaging on the V Raptor yet or with the latest update??
