  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

hello

was heading out this morning to shot something , but noticed that after getting my cam back from upgrades that one of the screws on the pl mount has been striped, anyone have any ideas on how to take this out, it being sat cant contact anyone from red , thanks

need to get nikon mount back on..

This happened to my friends camera.

We had quite a panic over it but solved it.

The only way if the screw is really stripped... is to drill it out.

You can try a screw extractor set but its basically the same principle as drilling it out. You make a little hole in the middle of the screw with a regular bit and then you drill the screw extractor in there and it grips it to pull it out.
But this didnt work for us so....

With a regular bit-you just drill until th head pops off. Usually the screw comes loose before that.

Put the RED in a vice. Plug up the sensor hole with kimwiped and a sponge and go slowly with a good sharp bit.

I think this happened to my friend because he was tightening the screws with the short end of the hex key and therefore using too much leverage.
Now when we tighten them- we use the long end in order to limit the maximum torque. We also make sure that the end of the key is seated in the very bottom of the screw.

I hope all of this is clear.

When you've got it out and a replacement Torx Plus screw, get yourself one of these:

and the TP10 or IP10 bit for the PL mount screws.

The recommended 0.45Nm of tightening is not much torque! But oogabooga's suggestion will be in the ballpark if you're not bothered about being exact.
