Hi there,

I'm shooting a commercial that will need lots of social content extracted from our footage. I'd like to be able to shoot with as little framing variance as possible. Does this combination, which I lifted from PHFX, accopmlish that?

Shoot 8K FF and have 6KHD framelines for our editor, (not shown) and 4K 1:! frame lines.

How do these 1:1 lines translate to social, or do they?

Or is there a better (or any) way?

Not many people want a a square and 17:9

When I have done this on monstro I just shoot max size Square format and create guides that look like a crucifix (nearly comon top)..

this is assuming they want a 9:16 and 16:9 from the same footage...

it makes me feel very dirty but it saves time and works.

I wonder if the pan&scan isn't a better idea than to have a spot on centered frame for wide screen? There are even AI plugins for some editing software that do the 19/6 reframing automatically depending on what is in the frame.

Think you need to be more specific than saying "Socials" 1080x1920 which is a common social format is a very narrow format. 1:1 is also common but then there is also 4:5 and some others that is commonly used. Commercial clients these days are quite used to use the Arri and Sony that shoots 3:2 and then they extract 16:9 and all the social format out of that.

So normally the clients get a bit nervous if shooting FF on monster as the socials then get so much horisontal crop. The correct Horizontal guide setting to get a for standing 16:9 Monstero is 70%. Then you can choose to expose the full frame or set the camera to 6:5 or such to deliver something that is more more close to what Venice / Alexa delivers.

Here is a screen dump of 9:16 and 1:1 on full frame 8k red just to show how small part of the frame comes to use.

You can also shoot Fullframe 3:2 with RED.
