  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Shooting 3K for DCP 2.40:1 a good idea?

One last question. Some people advise using half debayer 'normal' for downscaling.
It looks much sharper to my eye than full debayer or half 'premium'. I think that's weird...
Any ideas / advise on this?

Thanks.

My thought is that half debayer normal will look sharper because it is essentially the cheapest downscale you can get so pixels will have a lot of contrast but also prone to aliasing. I'd say always debayer full for best noise performance and if you want sharper downscales and dont mind risking a little aliasing use bilinear downscaling instead of bicubic, lanczos, etc. Not sure if you can do this in RCX though, I haven't played around recently with RCX export options and I dont have it in front of me.

I always try to use bilinear downscales for web content to keep super sharp video even when delivering at lower resolutions.

EDIT: Hadn't explored the scaling options in RCX but looks like there are a ton of algorithms to choose from, I'd suggest anyone exporting transcodes from RCX try them all and see what they like best for their taste and purpose. I just played around with it and on the "sharpest" setting got a little weird looking noise so maybe one of the "sharper" settings would be best.

Hey Noah

As a director, not DP ( in which case what am I doing on this forum;) ? ) . I found this explanation invaluable in the black arts of debayering, thanks
