Shipping boxes

Why does red double box shipments in such crazyily larger boxes? I just got my Redmote in and the box second box is 6 x 12 x 12. Same over packing when all my other various bits of Red kit has shipped. It is just a huge waste of resources!

Probably an issue of how many box sizes they want to have on hand. Fulfillment is a hard business. Comnpanies like Zappo's, Amazon and B&H have spoiled us.

We do have a wide range of boxes. But sometimes we have a run on one part shipping a lot (like REDmote right now) - and we run out of a certain size box so it takes a day or to restock. So, instead of not shipping to you, we put in a larger box for that time

I would also add, that Red packs their boxes very well. If you have shipped a lot of boxes like I have or Red does, you understand that it is better to use a bigger box and pad the contents well, to avoid damages which are far more wasteful and costly, than the savings from using smaller boxes.

And it's nice to see RED using all recycled/ recyclable paper and boxes too. No messy packing peanuts or those corn starch ones that only compress once and turn to goo if they get wet. ...And don't get me started on air bladder packaging. Those wreak havoc on sensitive electronic components when shipped by air or delivered to differing altitudes. Living at altitude, it gets frustrating when nearly every package with air bladders inside it shows up bulging and about to burst. Fine theory, if all transit and all customers existed at sea level...

Completely agree. Recently got a package from Miller and I spent 5 minutes unpacking, then another 20 cleaning up the mess. RED's packaging is a secure, efficient, and clean joy.
