Hi,

I just wanted to share some footage I shot during the week. Enjoy!

Tech info;

All handheld with RED Scarlet-X Canon mount Al

4K 24fps and 2K 60fps

ISO 800

Compression 10:1

Shutter speed was 1/100 to counter the fluorescent flickering.

Canon 35mm f2 and Tokina 19-35mm f3.5-4.5.

The last 7 shots were on the Tokina, hence the underexposure.

Next time, I'll bring some lights!

Nice stuff! The faster shutter worked well to capture all the rapid moves without much motion blur.
To select that 1/100 shutter speed, did you first try a few different speeds to find one that best avoided the fluorescent flicker?

Man, that guy must've been sore at the end of that lesson!

I liked the way the music, near the end, sounded like a mellow instrumental of "Everybody Wants to Rule the World." :-)

Thanks for sharing it!

Haha I thought the same thing.

Pretty cool. Looks like it would benefit from having some lights, and some type of handheld rig for this type of shooting (or maybe IS lenses too.) Good work though.

I think I'm going to want to invest in a gunner rig when my camera arrives.

Well done Ray. I really like the look you came up with for this. I agree that the 1/100 shutter really works well here as well. I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Cheers Ray. Sticky hands work was great. And for just practical fluro's, hand held @ 10 -1 compression, looked pretty good to me.

Best

h264

I'm just curious to know what others are using for conversion to h264. The clip I posted looks quite different in Redcine-X and Premiere, deeper blacks and whiter whites. I know there was issues with gamma in h264 but surely there's a solution by now?

Hi Ray,

You might try x264. It has a gamma adjustment option in the Tagging / Color Space setting.

I love this Ray! Fantastic footage, the 2k 60p looks cool as hell. Love the undercranking, I think the 1/100 shutter looks perfect. This makes me want to make Haywire 2.
