Scarlet sensors - how do they compare?

Hiya,

I have a question about the different sensors. Having seen RED ONE footage which looks amazing, the sensor for scarlet 2/3 is less than half the size of the RED ONE sensor.

My questions are how much will that affect their picture? I know that 2/3 uses a smaller area of 35mm lenses so the angles won't directly correlate, but how much less responsive will the sensor be? Will it be the same number of stops of sensitivity as the S35, just the smaller 3K picture?

I ask as I had the HVX200 and at a 1/3 sensor it suffered from terrible noise and sensitivity issues.

I can expect that a 3000 dollar 2/3 scarlet camera won't compare to the RED ONE 17000 dollar camera, but is there any indication of how the image quality compares to see yet? Like if you were to stack a 3k image from the 2/3 and a 4k image from the S35 and downsize them to 2k side by size.

I can't wait for these babies to become available and am toying between the 2/3 cinema and the S35 DSMC

Thanks for any help in advance

Best regards,
Richard

Here are some stills Jarred posted from the 2/3" Scarlet: www.camerarentalz.com/1st-image-3k-scarlet/

Scarlet will be using the next generation Mysterium X sensor so it is hard to compare sensitivity to the current RED One. I think you could safely bet the 3k image from Scarlet will be more sensitive then if you shot in 3k (or cropped 4k to 3k) with the RED One, though.

Thanks Justin, they look awesome and very comforting to see.

I guess I had concerns that it wouldn't stand up to the red one due to its sheer price difference, but it looks exactly to be what I need.

Thanks again
Richard
