I was testing my Zacuto EVF today with my Scarlet via. HDMI.
In short, it works pretty well at 720p taking output from the Scarlet, a few minor tweaks on Zacuto's end but I think it'll be sorted out.
The "glitch" occurred when I set the Scarlet to output 1080p to see how the unit would handle the larger signal. I then shut down the camera to reset everything as instructed in the menus. When I turned it back on the EVF (which does not have a 1080 screen) it instantly recognized the larger signal and defaulted to a lower 720/60 (clean) setting. The Scarlet monitor then responded by resetting itself to the same size and clean signal seen on the EVF monitor. Essentially, the Red's touchscreen was immediately filled with the captured image and all the menus were either turned off or scaled out of the scene ( I couldn't tell which).
Of course, now that I had no menus the camera was basically unusable and no amount of fiddling with the screen, the cables, the batteries or the side handle would bring the menu's back.
I eventually just sucked it up and reinstalled the 3.0 firmware which brought the camera back to the default settings and fixed everything, but I was wondering if anyone has seen any kind of glitches over the HDMI such as this. I was under the basic understanding that the signal was fairly inert...that the EVF would either work or not under particular HDMI settings. Apparently there is a bit of handshaking between the devices going on and the Scarlet really didn't like the response it got.
In the mean time, I would recommend that anyone using an HDMI monitor of any type on the Scarlet probably just leave the HDMI output to AUTO or 720p unless you are absolutely certain your monitor will do 1080p.
Certainly interested in any similar instances that may come up.
