  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Revert R3D file names back to original? Or rebuild folder/name structure?

So I had an issue where my footage was formatted over.

I managed to recover all of the footage and it plays fine in redcine player, but redcine X is not seeing the files in the folder. When doing data recovery, all the clips were renamed to their "reel ID full" name (i.e. f2827179.rd), and I'm guessing REDCINE X is looking for the proper folder/file name structure.

I can open the clips in redplayer, look at the metadata and SEE the original file names, but I'm not sure if I can somehow revert the files back to that name.? I suppose I could open each individual clip, copy the metadata file name, then rename them manually, but it's a tedious process and I'm not even sure if it'll work (they're all in one folder as of now, and I think I need to separate them).

Anyone know if there's a way to rename or rebuild a bunch of R3D's back to their original file names and folder structures?

Just an update for those who see this. I haven't been able to figure it out, so I've decided to transcode the footage, clip by clip, to prores444 and just work from those files rather than do an offline/online CC with the R3D files. I'm sure with a little more time I could have figured it out, but I'm on a deadline and just decided to bypass the headache for now.

Also, to save other people, photorec recovery software is what was able to recover the clips. It's free, reads r3d files, and worked wonderfully. Next time, I'll set it to try and recover all folders and filenames rather than just looking for r3d's, which I assume would have solved the dilemma I'm in now, but it takes a LOT longer.

Good tip on Photorec, certainly something to be aware of :)
