I am trying to grade the r3ds in Red Alert or Red Cine on a Mac Pro and make QT's scaled at 1920x1080 uncompressed. I then transfer the QT's to my PC and load them into AfterFX. I resize to standard def and render to the codec for my NLE. I have tried using all of the various render filters in Red Alert; gaussean, cubic, etc. My Red Alert settings are mild denoise, leading lady, and medium olpf.

I am seeing fantastic, bright, clear, sharp and colorful images in Red Alert and Red Cine.

When I load the QT's into AfterFX on my PC, what I am seeing is a dark QT that is both too sharp and too soft at the same time. What I mean is that long thin lines like a car grille or car body edge is dancing while the faces of my talent are soft. By dark I mean about 80 ire instead of 100 and when I bring it up the gamma does not seem right. If I add unsharp mask the faces get better but the dancing lines are worse. If I defocus the dancing lines are better but the faces are too soft.

I am used to shooting VariCam. All the video processing is done in camera and is both sharp on the face detail and easy on the ringing on small lines. Good for broadcast.

When I transfer 35mm to video I use a very expensive real time system with similar features for enhancement as found internally in a video camera.
I can add detail to a face while softening enough to eliminate unwanted dancing of fine lines.

I need some help from someone who can grade Red footage and make video that looks like what I get out of a 35mm telecine. Anyone?

Help!

My bad.

Settings, settings, settings. Final Cut is new to us, we are a PC house.
Now we are looking in great in SD and HD.
