This is mainly for RED employees, although everyone is welcome to reply if they have the answer.

I'm testing the new Sony 4K display with a REDRAY Player. The HDD in the Player contains a number of clips, including trailers and test patterns. Most clips play fine and look pretty darn awesome, too. However, some clips produce a full yellow screen, while the clip's audio can be heard in speakers. I'd like to get to the bottom of this issue, especially as I reaaalllly want to see the Elysium trailer in 4K :)

I have to return the player very soon, so I'd appreciate any advice before the weekend's over.

Haven't seen that yellow screen thing... Did have the 55" Sony 4K here until yesterday and sent it back because it had some issues. REDRAY seemed to work fine with it, though. I have the 55" Samsung 4K coming in this next week. So we'll see how that one goes.

Elysium trailer? I have one of the first REDRAY's to ship, so mine didn't include that... Still no ODEMAX online for most of us yet... Why do you have to return the player?

haven't seen any yellow screens - I would recommend try a full cold re-boot. Turn of the power and unplug. The restart - it goes thru a initialization on the re-power - see if that works.

Thanks Clark, I'll give that a shot.

Yellow screen is an HDCP handshaking issue. I have this with certain panels we have - it wasn't there in the initial build, but cropped up after the firmware update...

Email sent. Thanks Nick!

Hmm. Odd how some clips play perfectly without exception, while others produce the yellow screen only, also without exception. All this on the one Sony 4K set.

Doing a cold re-boot and re-initializing the player helped. Yellow screens are history. Thanks Clark! Also thanks to Nick for offering support!

Yes, a yellow screen is the expected behavior if the REDRAY player cannot establish an HDCP encryption session with the attached display. As per the Ops Guide, this is your indication of that condition. As for why all the clips don't do this if you have that issue, not all the clips shipped on the REDRAY player have HDCP enforcement enabled - the Test Signals for example don't - so they will display on any attached display whether HDMI, DVI or HD-SDI based, whereas clips that have HDCP enforced for copyright reasons will only display if the REDRAY can establish an HDCP encryption session.
