  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dear Red Team,

The more features and products you plan to release, I guess the more options ,ideas and request we'll come up with. So you see, the revolution has just started by you guys, but will continue and grow....

It would be fantastic , if the REDRAY would become able to playback 3d stereoscopic material in 1 way or another. You could beat blu-ray very easy allowing us the option to playback 2x 2K or maby even 2x4K, which would even be much better.

There are some plugin vendors opening up cheaper tools to produce and postpro 3d material, but we still need a descent player for future clients en enthousiasts and even cinema perhaps(dcp problem ignored off course, but you had already an answer on that specific subject mentioned on IBC)

If the electronics planned to be in the 1st version don't allow this kind off playback , I hope you could come up with some kind of sync function. This would also open up an easy way to do some incredible multiple 4K res projection opportunities for eventing and domes and such....allowing us to capture or playback multiple 4k streams in sync.

It is a little suprising that the max framerate is 30fps because that will make it "impossible" for 4K 3D 2x24~48fps at full bitrate.

With the possibility of 48fps playback we would also have a playback device/media for 48fps 2D, which I think would be of great interest down the road when the 4K DLP projectors arrive and people really get to do tests with 4K 24fps versus 48fps capture/playback on really big screens.

Wouldn't solve 4K 3D 2x48fps which I guess will be something Cameron will be drooling over as soon as Epic FF35 & 645 is out.:yikes:

Would be interesting to know if RED have been looking into the redlaser 3x-speed DVD-ROM format running at up to 33.24 Mbps, but with shorter playtime of course? ( runtime reports vary between 90min. up to 150min for 2k with conventional codecs)

(a snug little blue laser drive from the Chinese CBHD format would solve many capacity problems many years into the future):leaving:

I still suggest not going the dvd route, but blu-ray instead.

Or going with the possibility to connect each possible external device, eliminating the blu-ray license fee... It's no problem to produce the content for ourselves.

However it seems that the market of blu-ray is growing a lot these days, and i see no reason why a much larger storage and datarate capacity is so much of a problem to make it maby as an upgrade option on the redray.
also as a possible 4k 3d playback device it could become the most interesting piece of hardware for many of us and also for 3rd parties which have to provide content to audiences.
