  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDline piping data to ffmpeg

I'd like to encode with x264 because it's fast and much nicer than Apple's built-in H.264, which I think is what redline uses.
Other than that, I'm just fond of ffmpeg, and I think it would be really cool to add more format support so we have options. To make some intermediate format using redline is possible, but inefficient and probably slower than going all in one step.

Some theoretical uses off the top of my head:
concatenate a bunch of files for dailies
sync audio based on timecode
make a timelapse
grab frames in other still image formats
superimpose watermark image
extract audio only

It's unlikely that ffmpeg would ever be used for online finishing because REDline will always be ahead with the latest color science and metadata, but it could be a nice option for offline and dailies work.
