Red Raven Usabale Space?

So about to pull the trigger on 2 raven packages for my event film company, trying to figure out recording times using the calculator on the red site. What I do not understand is "useable space" is larger than the size of the mini mag, can someone explain this to me?

You have it the wrong way round.

Also be sure to enter the usable storage space for a given media type, not the total storage space. For example, a 128 GB SSD often has no more than 120 GB of usable space once formatted.

Some space on each card is not recordable to, this isn't a lot of space but could be vitally important in some specific circumstances.

thats what I thought, but the red calculator does not automatically change the useable storage, I thought there was something there I was missing, obviously not!

Steve, also check out AJA Data Calc (iOS). I use this all the time and has some presets for RED formats. You'll still need to know usable storage space but you can calculate how much time based on storage space....or how much space a certain amount of time takes up (the latter being useful for continuous recording for events).
