  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Rectangle 'flare' with LLO OLPF

I get hate shadow with my new LLopf installed.. Unless I'm looking at some other rectangle glare it hasn't been fixed...

Naim, when did you buy the 2 OLPFs?

I got them with my Scarlet Dragon upgrade before NAB.

As far as I know there are swappable OLPFs which are the newer ones, and the unswappable OLPFs which are older. Are there really 3 different versions of the OLPFs? Do you seriously have an OLPF for your Dragon camera that will allow you to tilt down from the sun or any light source and not have your shot completely ruined by gate shadow?

Red has more than 3 OLPF (LLO; STO; Standard (the new one), they also have one for underwater... and there was also 3 different OLPF generation before they did the STO. I personnaly use 100% the LLO.
Kippertie offers also other OLPF made with the collaboration of RED.

This depends really on the mount you use. PL has a better design than the Nikon mount for example. I personnaly put some flocking material used in telescope to cut the reflection. Gate shadows also existed in 35mm film, there fore they often shot without the format masking matte on the gate.

Foto from my flocking tests on the Nikon mount V1, using paper and tissue but not the telescope flocking paper.

I guess I should have said "generation". My point is, there are no OLPFs that affect gate shadow at all, it still exists on the most current OLPFs.

Irrelevant to this discussion (and sounds like you could fix it on 35mm). Did not exist on MX, and it ruins shots.

Can you provide any more details? Does adding some arts and crafts to the gate eliminate the gate shadow?
