Recording the SDI signal into 7Q for backup?

On my current Sony FS7, I usually have the Odyssey 7Q attached and on important jobs I have it record the SDI out just to have a backup in case something happens to the memory cards.

On the DSMC2 bodies, can you record clean / useable HD footage from the SDI? This would be a precaution in case the Mini-Mag fails for some reason.

The other thread about the Mini-Mags getting formatted on power up makes me paranoid. Would be nice to have a backup even if it’s only HD.

Yes you can. But I must say that I have never had an issue using RED Mags. It s the most reliable media I have ever used.

Will the recorded backup on the 7Q be full HD resolution or some type of smaller windowed size? Obviously hoping for a clean, HD recording with no info overlays or anything like that.

I'm sure Mini-Mags are bulletproof, but it never hurts to be safe. Here's that other thread on data issues.

Yes you can make it into a clean feed with nothing but the image, just make sure you set your HDSDI refresh rate to your project specs. You can even monitor with RG4/DC2 and send RLF/whatever look out to your recorder too.
