REC 709 for RED?

Hi All,

I was wondering if RED had a Rec 709 option like the Alexa has? With the Alexa it is convient to record Log C (RAW) to the cards and output Rec 709 to the on-board monitor, eyepiece, and video village. Any recommendations from the Red experts in the house? On a similar yet different point, I'm delivering this job to editors who are not used to working with RED and RAW footage. I'm afraid to deliver RAW files, but don't have the budget for an on set DIT. Anybody out there have any recommendations on transcoding and color grading to deliver color corrected dailies to be edited in FCP? Thanks in advance.

Is the project going to be color corrected after the edit? Is it going to live in FCP and then just spit out to final master? Are there any plans to back to color grade on the RAW files? If this is just going to be a quick turn around job where the client has no intention to take advantage of RAW, I suggest shooting RED Color 3, and RED Gamma 3 to an external ProRes recorder and call it a day.

We do this all the time to the PIX240, works a treat. My only beef would to be able to switch the onboard monitor to RAW check without affecting the SDI output. That is a long asked for feature.

The Redgamma 2 curve is more flat than red gamma 3, meaning that by using redgamma 2 you have more latitude to grade in.
Both are within rec709 specs.

Yes, use RC3 / RG3, and if that's not contrasty enough for you, use the contrast control say about 0.25 to 0.5 should work.
