  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

So I'm shooting a music video in broad daylight, its winter here so it could be foggy but who knows, in any case it will be very light outside. I'm shooting on a RED Scarlet and am delivering in 1080p but want the room to work in post... a lot of room. Assuming we're delivering in 1080p, is it better to shoot at RC 4:1 3k HD and have the lower compression but only downscale a little bit to 1080, OR shoot in 4k HD at RC 8:1 or 6:1 and downscale a lot to 1080p.

(assuming crop factor isn't an issue and a lens is picked accordingly)

I would always prefer using more of the sensor, i.e. 4KHD at 8:1 or 6:1, it's more photosites thus more information.
