  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Raven > Scarlet-W new upgrade path

So if I'm reading this right, there is no price benefit to the new Raven > Scarlet-W upgrade path that was just announced... the only benefit is that if you switch over then you retain your Raven timestamp (?)
 
Yes - which might actually be a pretty big advantage. I am not sure but there also might be a few more further upgrade options available to Scarlet-W owners than Raven owners but you'd have to do some research as I am not completely sure.

Well, from my situation I was only going to consider upgrading to S-W if there was a price break (since I don't really need a S-W and the Raven will do fine for my needs). If this is just a earlier timestamp benefit then I'll be keeping my Raven pre-order.
 
This whole frenzy might end up helping you get delivery earlier since some folks are moving to other paths. Enjoy your camera!!
 
Not sure how much of an advantage it really is because according to what my rep said, if you purchased one of the original Raven bundles (V-Lock/Jetpack), you would forfeit the accessories by changing to Scarlet-W.

This is what I took away from the information posted - that this would be just for the S-W brain and nothing else (which would be for the same price anyway if bought alone) - you'd just get the S-W faster as it would be using your Raven timestamp...

Not sure how many will be jumping ship from Raven > S-W because of today's announcement, but this can only mean that Raven pre-orders will be going out faster which would be good for those still waiting :D
 
All told, it's super exciting seeing all the buzz about todays announcement but after thinking things over, I'm pretty happy to stay Raven, seems like a really good deal - you really get a lot for your money especially if you ordered a package and before the price hike. SW and definitely EW would have stretched me too far financially.

I'd love to be able to own a Helium but realistically I would struggle with 8K files - Raven is the perfect for me at my stage in my business and i can't wait to get shooting with it - fingers crossed todays announcement will hasten my allocation ;-)

Well, we upgraded our Raven pre-order to Scarlet-W a couple of months back and we were told that we would keep our original timestamp but in our account, the new Scarlet-W order doesn't reflect our original order date. Our rep ensures me that our original timestamp is honored but I can't help but feel something is going to go wrong as it always tends to.... murphy's law. Has anyone else moved to a Scarlet-W and your order reflects the original timestamp?
 
One thing i find interesting is the crop factor with the Epic W.
I have no doubt that it is a great sensor and camera but if you are interested in shooting higher frame rates then the Raven really stands out as being good value.
From my understanding the Raven shoots 120 fps 4.5K 4608x2160 pixels - almost S35 aspect ratio
The Epic W shoots 120 fps at 4K 4096x2160 but with a sensor with a smaller pixel pitch, so the aspect ratio is half the size of S35
If you have a look at Phil Holand's aspect ratio guide, the Epic W at 4K is surprisingly smaller than the Dragon at 4.5K

I personally feel it is hard to go past the Raven for value for money
 
I moved to a Scarlet-W in April, and was also told by my rep that my original timestamp is honored.

And it'll be interesting to see how much pressure has been lifted off the Raven/SW queue after the Epic-W release.
 
Richard. Totally agree which is why we also have a second Raven with a retailer. It's really hard to pass up for the $$$. The SW is great for shooting at 24fps FF because you do get noticably wider FOV and a better aspect ration for flexibility in post but for anything high speed, it feels a bit lacking.
