  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

rack mount a mac pro on some sort of camera/dit cart?

I'm looking for different solutions where I can rack mount a macpro onto some kind of camera cart/ magliner / dolly.

Preferably this cart could be configured to accept two 24" displays, rack mount a raid and a battery back up....

Are there companies that specialize in this? That is selling or custom making carts specifically designed for this.

I know of MagLiner but have never seen any rack mount configurations.

I'm a DIT and have built a cart out of a magliner. I can tell you that using a Magliner or other Assistant Cart in combination with a custom case is my preference. Every DIT has a different idea of what the "perfect" cart would be, I think Brook Willard has nailed down my idea of the perfect cart. His is the nicest I've seen so far. You can draw up your ideas and have a custom case company build you a foam padded case that will hold a Mac Pro and rack along side of it, then drop the whole thing into a cart. I will be doing that on my next build. Here is a pic of my cart as it is now, it's not ideal but has been in a lot of places this year and served me well. Just for fun I included a pic of the v1 of the cart, I built it on location to color and transcode a feature with limited resources, then rebuilt it when I got back from the feature.

Yeah. I saw brooks setup on his blog. It looks like his gear is rack mounted in a custom mastercase / ata case and then that case sits inside some kind of a backstage camera cart. I just can't figure out what kind of a monitor that is. It looks like a giant.

When you travel how do you ship your gear?

I have two big custom pelicans that hold a mac pro and monitor each. I have pelicans for everything if I'm traveling by plane but it's a pain in the ass, I started building a brook clone cart because of this. I generally try to take my van even for moderate distances so I have a nice place to keep all my stuff organized and that way I don't have to break down my cart at all.

I remember seeing those cases a few generations of MacPro ago. I forget where I saw them... Looking forward to Zak's response.

BTW they were essentially turnkey re-housings of genuine Macs, also sold as a do it yourself kit, not necessarily for Hacintosh.
