Hi: I have a few questions on a recently-acquired Arrisun 12 HMI. Not the 12 Plus, but the older one that uses the 1200 PAR HMI lamp.

1) There is a symbol on the back with arrows crossing at 90 degrees. One says HMI, the other says CID. Does this refer to the proper orientation of the fixture when each of these types of lamps are installed? ( Perhaps a second question is: Have never heard of a CID lamp in film production, Is that a viable option?

2) Did the fixture have a UV safety glass and/or wire mesh in the door, as the Arrisun 12 Plus does? Or, does the PAR lamp have a built-in UV coating?

3) Does anybody have a pdf copy of the instruction manual (or know of one online)?

Much thanks, Mike

I think HMI was the OSRAM owned brand name. ALl other bulbs (Ushio etc) were considered CID. In practice, I don't think it really matters. I have never had a problem running those old pars with the bulb in any configuration.

I don't think you should run them without a lens in and point them at people. That being said, I suspect the par bulb has a UV filter in it. I have a few of the old ARRI lenses kicking around and most of them had a wire safety screen built into the lens holder.

As far as old instructions, there's not much to them, point the glass end toward the enemy and hit the button. If you want a manula or schematics, call ARRI NY they are prety good about giving out xeroxes of the old stuff. Also, I think it's Galaxy in LA could probably answer any questions you may have.

All of this info is just what I thnk, so I may be wrong, but I have been using those light for almost 20 years.

The par lamp has UV safety. I would recommend having it converted to a single ended fixture. There are several house that do the conversions and the price is fair when you consider the price of replacement lamps for the old style. Call Eddie at Advanced Lighting 818-521-9828.
