  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Pull focus in post production...

Hi Eric, I am blown away by the vision you have presented here. As I am actively seeking technologies and methodologies that will enable us to create photo realistic imagery of stories that would traditionally lie far beyond our budgetary relm, I am eager to explore.

I regulary work with young people teaching image production skills, this could open up a whole new world in education.

Thanks I’ll check it out.

It sounds like what you are doing is very worthwhile indeed.

Theoretically the software could be re-jigged to run on a PS-3. PS-3 uses a chopped version of OpenGl and the PS-3 is stereo capable.

Normally we would recommend any stereo capable graphics card but if you are doing full real time virtual realities of massive sites (such as a gothic ruin) and the like to sub millimeter accuracy I would recommend the most powerful cards that NVIDIA makes.

I have to admit it really bothers me that a lot of young people spend more than 10,000 hours having played video games before the age of twenty. Ten thousand hours of practice is about what is required to become a virtuosic violinist (or virtuosic at anything else). In the US alone that is probably of the order of 3 billion man/brain hours that just goes down the drain every year. There has to be something more useful, meaningful or productive (and engaging) that could be achieved with such an interface (such as a games console or the like?). I’m not anti the gaming industry in any real sense at all, but somehow I think there has to be an overall consequence for all of this. These kids should be the engineers, artists and innovators of the future, not virtuosic games players with only the hope of a McJob. It really is a mind blowing level of potential talent that just gets completely wasted for the long term. Unfortunately its these bright visually and spatially gifted kids that get sucked into these games.

Cheers,

Eric

So here’s a totally crazy idea.

Lucas for example complains that his new s-3d live action 50 hours or programming is far too expensive to do for TV when each episode costs as much as a movie but in reality has to be executed for a tenth of the price (or less).

You port Objective reality (type) software and others re-jigged for games consoles; you select or send pre-marked up raw data sets for kids to work with or download by choice, and then they send the results in/back. Basically kids (of all ages) compete with each other to get their stuff/work on TV, in the mean time they get some good skills and quite a buzz. I think that’s quite a wild fusion of media and “realiy(esque)” tv shows combined with video games/console technology. Heaven know the games industry has made enough money, perhaps it’s time to give something back??

I’m sure that this whole concept is majorly flawed probably for legal reasons or child labor laws or something. This could be worse than what we trying to save ourselves from…

Linux (good and bad) was developed along those lines except a 3d immersive (major) scifi TV show might be a little more engaging?

I don’t know it’s a mad reality…(the future more so)
