  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

HI guys today during a shot (sigh!) I had two times a proxy error.
I was recording 60fps 2k pro res HQ (6K fov)
I know that has fixed the error recording R3D and Avid but I think the guys at Red they should check this too.
Also a friend of mine had the same problem recording pro res at 100fps.
I did now the secure format of the card again and until know is not happened...but during a shot it kills!!!!!

Please Red people check this issue, thanks!

So guys some update...this morning I tried another minimag120GB and I had no problem...then I secure format the one I used yesterday and I start record, everything was goign good, than I went to press play and look what I saw! Really scary!!!

Anyone had this issue? My mag has been used very few times as the camera was new....well I am waiting now the response from Red as I sent two log files....hope is not the camera...but at this point if the other mag works it HAS to be the mag...lol...

luca, have you tried the faster mags? i haven't experienced this error, but maybe it could be tied to the data rate of your slower mags?
 
I tried another 120 mag and it works ok with any size fov and codec...I suppose is a faulty mag? anyway I think I am goign to get a 240....
 
Sadly also with the new card this morning I had the same issues.
1. Shooting at 25 fps project base NO varispeed is ok in any size.
2. Shooting at 60fps WS or also 4k or other sizes (varispeed) it give me proxy error 0x0000011d
3. It happen that recording 4k and 6k FF didn't happen ONCE but then it happened again.

Look at this pictures guys to see my configuration. I use a mag of 120gb.

Experienced this one time on a production with 50 fps 6K together with DNxHD SQ proxies. Didn't for the rest of the shoot though, but it caught my eye so there's something going on.
 
Thanks Chris, now is doing also sometimes at 25fps normal speed....Red sayd that maybe is a bug in the build...but why only to me???
 
UPDATE:
So today I have been doing other tests and I did a video of 11 minutes with 4 different tests. The result is that pulling focus using the new side handle cause error. I don't remember very well if the problem happened also when I wasn't touching the focus wheel but Im not sure I may have touch it, for sure I recall it happened during shooting and I was focusing with the wheel.
So I suppose I discovery something that will be helpful for all the people that own a side handle and in the meantime if you want you can try the same tests.
Test 1: 60fps 6K ws fov at 2k prores hq manual focus. NO PROBLEM

Test 2: 60Fps 5k ws fov R3D+prores hq manual focus. NO PROBLEM

Test 3: 60fps 5Kws fov 2k prores hq pulling focus with side handle (auto focus on the lens). PROXY ERROR 0x0000011d

Test 4: 60fps 5k ws fov 2k prores hq manual focus. NO PROBLEM

New side handle

Now I need to wait a new side handle as mine was sent back as was not recognized by the camera and now I think is arrived the time to send back again!
 
Today I received a new side handle Red Uk are incredibly good :-) as I was expecting the proxy error is still there as soon I pull focus with the side Handle at 60fps vary speed. The checked the log file and the camera is issues free so they find a bug in the firmware that will be hopefully updated soon. Thanks Red team also in the US for emailing me too is really great to have people that take care of you @redforever!
 
I have the same issue with my Epic-W, but also when I record just R3D without proxies and using the Focus wheel.
Error Code is 0x00000020 and the camera needs to shut down and the last clip recorded is gone.
That issue really ruined some shots on a recent production.
Support told me, the proxy error might be solved with a firmware upgrade and the Error Code 0x00000020 should be mag relatet but happens with every mag.
 
Yes the problem is solved now. Did you open a ticket? As this error problem looks different from mine. Which capacity mag you ise?
 
So just for everybodys information, this problem still exists.
I had the sidhandle sent in to red, it´s all good and working. They could reproduce the issue with other sidehandle/cameras as well.
If recording R3D files at high frame rates and using the focus wheel of the DSMC2 Sidehandle at fast speed, the camera shuts down with an error message.
When recording R3D + Prores at higher Frame Rates and changing the focus at fast speed the proxy error appears.
If you pull the focus slightly (less data communication) it works in most cases.
So be aware of using the Focus wheel and use it with caution on the DSMC2 side handle for now until they really fixed the problem with a future firmware - later than v6.3.78, which I am using right now.
For me I won´t be using it again on real projects for now.
Besides that I really like the Sidehandle and the features it gives you.
 
So im still getting this Pro Res Proxy error code on my EPICW without a side handle I only had a wooden side handle attached to rosette and I was using CP3s handheld with WC4.. Very annoying as it was so intermittent, I havent updated firmware for 5 months so maybe I should do that but I dont know what the solution could be.....
