Hey all I am new here but a co-worker has been lusting over a RED for a number of years. I saw about the new camera that would be released well here are a few things I have noticed. BTW I shoot for a living studio shots of products, and on the side sporting events like MX and BMX. I personally own a CANON 1D MARK IIN it is awesome, also a 40D and 20D. At work we have 5D's, 20D, 30D, 40D...... So these R problems I notice!
1. ISO needs to BE useable at higher levels especially for wedding photogs and sport shooters. Like 6400 that looks like the current 5D at 1600.

2. FOCUS points how about more maybe 60 but be able to customize? I want all 6 on the top row active and the 1 below....

3. Quality images. OK MP are great and all but can I run a batch action on 10 56MP HASSy images...... NO! So maybe a good sized file like 30. Then have it drop off by quality levels. Like 25, 20, 15, 10,5.

4. RAW and JPEG at same time but recording at same speeds! With 2 card slots please!

5. WATERPROOF!

6. Adjustable sensor sizes? If possible a MD format FULL FRAME and like a 1.6 CROP!

7. Be able to use all current NIKON and CANON glass on the same body. maybe have the SENSOR on a slide rail system that can be moved to allow room.

8. How about 1/500 SYN speed.

9. Some type of radio slave that can run like 1-5 flashes at the same time??? Built in!

My main issues:

1. Dynamic Range
2. Dynamic Range
3. Dynamic Range

And yeah, better ISO performance.

By dynamic range you are referring to shadow and highlight details? I have found my 1D to have pretty good detail even in over exposed shadow. I still need to scan some of my Mamiya MF shots to see which is better. But ISO is more useful than dynamic range I think for stuff I shoot.

Mechanical robustness. I don't know how the top line DSLR's are, but the low and midrange models will not withstand much rough handling. One accidental drop will do most of them in.

I mean the ability to shoot outdoors without constantly blowing out blue skies.

Yeah, but I mean, then you are going to lose foregrounds, generally speaking. Plus there is very little sky in those shots.

I'm talking about a shot like this (below), where it's just really tough to hold the sky and the foreground in the same frame. Unless you can use a grad ND, it usually seems to come down to choosing sky or ground.

I could bring down the foreground, but then it would be dark. Keep in mind that I had to crank the "fill" light on PS to get the shot even this balanced.

Yeah I know what you mean! I sorta try and cheat and use fill flash...

But lighting a forest is a little tough!
