this thing looks pretty handy to me,
it's got anything you ask for!
anyone tested it yet?

Actually, the Pix can record in DNxHD220X (175X for 23.98 fps), which IS the highest quality available using Avid's codec. Neither one currently records the ProRes4444 codec, at least to my knowledge, but they both will do ProRes422HQ, which is a 220Mb, 10 bit codec and relatively equivalent to DNx220X (some might say a copy of it - not me, though.... ;-D ). If one wants uncompressed recording, there are solutions for that, too. Among those are the Convergent Designs Gemini (about $6K last time I checked) and the Blackmagic HyperDeck Shuttle, which is considerably less costly than any of these devices, at around $350. Even with the required SSD's running more than that (about $450 for 250GB), it's still a very economical device.
would u say it's pretty good as a focus monitor?
Yes, Mitch...This feature is awesome...Up/Down-Conversion...
Hmm, will it works with IDX's CamWave ?
Very good point. Have you tried on a R1 yet?
Mitch,
The realtime cross conversion feature was something I have been wondering around ever since they announced the PXI240. Thanks!
So what about the metadata?

Internal ambient Clockit time code generator with Genlock output,
Will it be as good as the original clockit?
Had problem of sound synch on long takes shot with the Epic in 25p without any synch device.
Probably too early to have user feedback...

Metadata is stored in the header just like anything else. If you cros convert it might get some data confused, especially if you were doing a 3:2 pulldown removal. Someone will have to test but I would suggest asking Sound Devices directly.
This video seems to imply it does exactly that:What was the final word about naming the file the same as epic names the file?
Does the PIX 240 crop the image from 5k (Epic) or does it down-convert the full image to 1080p? It says on the sound devices site that it is accepts 1080p input so I'm guessing it is cropping. Anyone know for sure?
That's strange, given that 4KHD is specifically designed to scale nicely to 1080p! I'm guessing they must just be using the same scaler as the 5K output uses, hence ending up with a smaller frame. Certainly hope they get that working soon, as an option for 1080p DTE output from the Epic would be very handy in some situations (like one I've got next week, for instance!).4KHD is not full raster so it will have a black border on all 4 sides
