“Organic” look with a Gimbal possible?

It may sound like I’m an old man, but I don’t have a gimbal or even used one.
But I’m looking at them now and have a few questions...

Can a gimbal be set to give a bit of “lax” within the stability?
Like, can the horizon sway just a little bit?
I’m contemplating buying a gimbal only if I can make it look as organic as possible.
So are there settings to NOT stabilize fully? Haha

Just like anything there are ways to use a gimbal that are aesthetically grating and a way that might please you. I don't know of any settings that make the gimbal "lax" in a useful way, but you could experiment with some post reframing adding a little bit of hand held effect. Best thing to do is get a gimbal and start experimenting and find what you like ?

It’s a different tool. Like easy rig will never mimic shoulder move, the gimbal is made to be technically «*perfect*» but DJI would probably enable a jitter mode if we ask them to do it.
Now they have come a long way from the first gimbals and the move is getting more and more “organic”.

If you want to allow non straight horizon lines there are POV modes that allow for rotation. You can also fine tune how responsive the gimbal is. Best try to rent one and see how it works for you, depending on the length of the takes and your rig you might need a vest as well as things get heavy with all the extras mounted th the camera.

Biggest thing is to get the thing out of majestic or solo mode.

Use a seperate operator for the framing to the person doing the carrying. I use an R2 with master wheels a lot as a human carryable remote head.

Or just use a Steadicam, which a lot of the time feels better even if it's not as precise. I think Gimbals are useful, but in general, wayyyy over used.

I even have started getting my Steadicam ops to TURN OFF the godamn volts they are all into now. It's bringing the same soulless mechanical feel to Steadicam shots!

I have the Zhiyun in mind, so as Martin said, use POV mode and all 3 axis wil be controllable with your moves.

Probably low deadband, medium smoothness, motor speed kinda high.
It should be reactive, but smooth.

POV and GO modes are highly underrated yet very useful.

I use POV on the Crane 3s for beauty commercial s when clients and directors want "a handheld feel" but we are macro on thd face and give my focus puller a chance to stay sharp.
Works very well and does not feel mechanic

My experience with Movi Pro is that 'perfect' is not what you get. As such, there is almost always some 'extra' motion that the viewer can see. The question is how much 'lax' do you want.

I agree on the Zhiyun you make the gimbal footage less gimbal looking, but on mine I can't have the same organic look as hand held no matter how I set it up.

Its a great addition to my gear even though I rarely use it.
