Well DSLR's have optical viewfinders & they cost very little.

They announced Scarlet back at NAB'07, so in theory it's been in development for about a year now.

And the entry level DSLRs have a shutter life of 50,000... which would be about 35 minutes at 24 fps. The pro DSLRs are rated for a shutter life of over 200,000... that would give you more than two hours before you can expect a failure!

DSLRs aren't a good model for digital motion picture cameras... except for some overlap with the RAW handling.
