Older Macbook Pro GeForce 8600 problems sorted?

Hi,
I've read in a few threads about people encountering problems using the now-previous-generation Macbook Pro (GeForce 8600 graphics) with Red Cine. I've done a quick search of the forum but can't find any information about whether the Mac drivers for the GeForce 8600 have at some point been updated. Does anyone have any recent experience using this combination?
(In fact, I'd been holding out for a while for the new MBPs but am unconvinced by the lack of a matte screen option and am leaning towards the older model after all...)

this is not a firmware or driver problem. its a yet unadmitted chip problem.
I had my 1yr 2month old MBP's display die on me and had to buy a new motherboard since the graphics chip is built in.

if you need a mbp, buy the new 15". it has a new btter chip.
