  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NLE+grading advice needed

But I have a concern/question about working with R3D files in Resolve: If we properly set the camera raw settings for red, is the grading done after applied to the raw data or is it applied on top a non-raw version of the R3D?
The Raw settings are done at the very beginning of the signal chain. Any Resolve color corrections are done after that.

I think a lot of fledgling users are under the mistaken impression that you need to do a lot of Log adjustments before you can color correct. The reality is that just basic adjustments on Exposure, ISO, Color Temperature, and color science (assuming DragonColor and RedLogFilm or whatever's applicable) works fine as a starting point. If you liked the temporary images you saw on the set, you can use those as a guide for the final color corrections in Resolve or any other decent color-correction program.

I agree with Jake that for a lot of people, editing and color-correcting R3D files in Resolve 12.5 can work very effectively. There is a learning curve, but there's some terrific tutorials out there, and the manual is also very good.
