First, welcome aboard Nikon!
Second: I just wanted to say that I hope we will see Nikon a bit here on the forum in the future. It has been such a friendly and valuable space to share information.
I also hope that they will breathe a bit of life into it. It has been a bit silent here, but I think with more involvement from Red/Nikon it could grow a bit again.
Instagram and Facebook does not replace the value of this forum IMHO. The main reason is that the information here is very well organized and you can have lengthy replies. That is not possible on Instagram.

Cheers!

Agreed Andreas.

It may not be a bad idea to extend an official REDuser welcome to both co-CEOs Keiji Oishi (notable leadership at Nikon) and Tommy Rios (equally notable leadership at RED for quite a while).

If people are on their best behavior perhaps and the "signal to noise" is kept high we could create a means of periodically communicating with them on this board.

My understanding is that Nikon wanted to learn more about RED.
I don't think the social media platforms foster the type of deep discussion that exist on REDuser. This board is a great place of doing that from a deeper customer level.

EDITED This is a unique platform, which where probably few Nikonians ventured until a few weeks ago! Well, at least a few decades long Nikon-only stills photographer....

In the quest to learn more about the parallel world of high quality video... this article is the only mention I've found comparing a RED camera to the Z9, Nikon's flagship ILC (which is my principal camera alongside a D6)

Thanks for sharing, and welcome to the family!

I’m also a Nikon stills user, and have long relied primarily on Nikon F/G mount as my standard for adapted lenses.

Excited to see where the collaboration goes…

However and what ever Nikon prioritizes in future products, they are likely to aim at the more profitable products - less volume - so prioritizing high performance but relatively in affordable technology, and Stills and Video

"Nikon's grabbing RED out of nowhere for next to nothing is producing even more product envy at Canon/Panasonic/Sony, as well as a little bit of panic. A Nikon that emphasizes high end across both still and video yet undercuts the others in price while pushing the envelope on performance is very, very scary. To explain why, I have to use the smartphone market as an example: Apple is not the largest volume producer with iPhone worldwide, yet Apple scoops up far more of the profits in the smartphone arena than the others combined. High end done right is the Golden Egg in tech, and Nikon suddenly seems to be figuring that out (again)."

IDK, 10 stops of dynamic range not impressing me.

That autofocus is crazy.
Had to recently do a basic dolly in shot on an actor with the KX and the current AF in firmware 1.2.5 kind of struggled even with that.
If anything, I would love to see some AF assistance that can be bought over from Nikon to RED.

Impressive video considering the price of the Z6 III

And likely there's more to follow from Nikon

Interesting articles.
The world of Nikon is something I truly was not too aware of before this acquisition.
I must admit that I was also under the impression that Nikon was getting many of their camera sensors from
Sony and did not understand that Nikon is still designing them and using Sony's Semiconductor wing as a manufacturing partner.

Nikon does seem to be on the move and RED is now a part of all of that so I remain cautiously optimistic.

Will see.

Thanks for the articles about the Nikon Z6 III.

I think it will be interesting to see where and how the future Nikon and RED products cross-over and overlap in terms of price and tech capabilities/features.

Even on the high end products, where I'd expect the most clear distinction between Nikon and RED cameras, I can imagine some shared features. But at what is now the Komodo level/price of camera, I wonder what will distinguish RED from Nikon (and vica-versa)?

One comment I read that stuck out to me was the intention to bring some expertise from Nikon into the actual RED camera manufacturing process. That could effect all RED cameras, but to me the most obvious area it could impact would be on the increased and more efficient and cost-effective mass production of the kind of camera that RED has probably sold more of than any of their other cameras, the Komodo-level one.

Looking at the Nikon Z6 III and how that compares to other cameras in the current 'Z' range, Nikon have proven, to me at least, that they're capable and willing to make some bold moves, which seem to me to be all about gaining market share by walking the talk and giving their customers better and improved and more advanced products.

If that same approach was applied to RED cameras, most noticeably to a product in the Komodo price-range and feature-set, I think it would be very well received by both Nikon and RED customers and could make it very easy to move between one set of Nikon products and another set of RED products.

Also, based on the info I've seen in the articles posted here about the Z6 III and other Nikon products, one thing in particular I'll be looking out for in the future, is a DSMC4 viewfinder adapted from the one on the Z6 III. I can't be the only one thinking that. Probably too late to make it for DSMC3, but if that doesn't get done for DSMC4 or whatever it turns out to be, something's gone wrong for sure :).

The Z6 III delivers on several of Nikon's aims stated in its strategic and financial reports. They include prioritizing video features and performance for creators; maintaining the Lens: Camera tie ratio, selling at 2:1; and last but not least extending Z9 features into more affordable cameras.
This strategy appears to be successful in maintaining Profitable margins earned from Hobbyists and Pros primarily.

New Nikkor Power Zoom aimed at videography

Nikon clearly does listen and with these moves towards video and cinematic work, I am sure they will become more and more active on these forums as things progress into 2025. For example, on Twitter:

Nikon Babs Do Productions.jpg

While I am not sure if this will become "NikonUser" with RED still being its own entity within Nikon, with the Z-series getting stronger, a new video-specific lens release, and clearly with more on the way, this all could be a great sign for a new RED release coming down the line!
