Updated my PC, I thought some might find the specs interesting if purchasing a new system. I get full 6K (RED Dragon) playback in Premiere Pro and Davinci Resolve. I chose AMD because it was faster than Intel with .r3d, but Intel is faster with other footage. The difference between Intel and AMD is only about 2%, but its cool to say "Threadripper." I chose the 2950x over the 2990wx because some software would have ran slower because they can't handle the 32-cores. I also got a Wraith Ripper (air cooler) so I don't have to deal with liquid cooling. I struggled at 1/4 playback with an i7 5960x and 2x 980 GPUs (same SSD and 64GB RAM). (Davinci uses both GPUs, PP only one). And from what I read, I think 16 GB of RAM seems max for editing, only longer, more complicated renders in AE will benefit from more RAM.
I used to screen footage in Davinci because I was able to get full playback with my 2x 980 GPUs.
CPU: AMD Threadripper 2950x
GPU: 2x Nvidia 1080Ti
Memory: 64 GB DDR4 (2133)
Storage: 2x SSD (OS, Cache), 6x 10TB WD Red Pro eSata internal HD
