I'm Ast. Editing a project shot on red and I was looking for a little advice. The shoot was multicam epic with no timecode gen lock between cameras or recorder or spare safety to either body, so I'm doing it the old fashion way. My editor is working on Final Cut Pro 7 and I have decided to link the audio to the 422 offline through redcine-x instead of merge clip and was wondering what codecs people suggested and if it is a good idea to make this the master, as it will probably be export via omf and aif into the post sound world and I would like to give them the most flexibility. I made this decision because the director would like to also have a set of audio dalies and wanted to give him a rendered solution instead of having to load through final cut. My gut feeling is to use apple lossless, but my audio knowledge is pretty limited. Also is there anyway to get that into a single center track instead of a Left Right dual channel? and is that something I should worry about?

On another note, on a few of the later roles they starting using an ipad running movieslate and i was wondering if anyone knows where the actual hit sound occurs because I have multiple shots that have a 2/3 frame gap between where the clapper closes to a full red screen and stopped timecode.. Just trying to find out where I should line up the snap. Any thought?

Thanks in advance
JP

Apple Lossless is like internal zip compression. Nothing wrong with it but it's not a common standard.

I'd just go with 48khz 16bit uncompressed PCM for the audio track for dailies, etc.

And oh man, why the heck do they have a RED but no timecode... gnash teeth! Sorry, man.
