Hey Guys,

RED EPIC W Newbie here.

I am shooting a music video this weekend. Just wondering is it possible to record the audio of the track internally while shooting? Is there a way to sync the audio with the actual video clips?

Or will I need an external sound device and clapboard etc and sync the audio in post later?

Any help or advice is appreciated.

Yes, it is definitely possible to record sound in camera, depending on what accessories you have attached, and will be in sync with the video.

That's said, the more important question is what style of music video are you shooting?
Most Music videos are shot using a master recording that is played on set while the talent lip-syncs. This makes it possible to cut between various takes and scenes while maintaining the continuity of the song. On set sound is used only for syncing tracks and does not end up in the final edit.

If you are shooting a live performance, will it be in a controlled environment, such as a studio or closed set, or at a live venue?
How many performers, instruments, or other audio sources?

The more sources you have, the more difficult it becomes to record evrything with the limited number of channels available in camera, and the more difficult it will be to make changes or adjustments in post.

Multi-cam concert videos are normally shot pretty much like music videos. The audio is recorded on master sound tapes and also on one or more of the studio cams, while the rest of the cameras rely on timecode and/or audio to sync.

Thanks for the fast reply guys.

Yes the talent will be lip syncing with the master audio playing in the background.

Do I just connect a micerphone into the stereo Aux slot?

I have a video mic pro. Will this work?

DSMC2 bodies have an internal microphone built in, you just need to have it enabled within the settings. Then you don't need to add a fancy microphone just for a reference track, as the onboard mic will def'n be good enough for your scenario.
