This should work work with nearly everything, but the speed will probably be to slow for editing etc. I googled this option some months ago and read that it's great to test if something runs, but to slow to do serious work.

Virtualization (Which is what VMware does) is never a good idea for heavy-duty work. It tends to be fairly slow, and most time specialized hardware doesn't work correctly.
