  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

LUT Software - Combining LUTs

One important consideration is that people use a lot of power windows in post these days, confining very specific kinds of exposure and color to various parts of the frame (large and small), and none of that is possible with LUTs. The windows and masks can have a drastic effect on the final look of the image.

That is true of course but a LUT allows more access to particulars which CDL route cannot access.

That's true, unless you're doing all your post with a company that doesn't use Baselight. You could theoretically use any system for on-set dailies and a similar system for final color, not necessarily Baselight. I like Baselight for a lot of things, but there are always alternatives, sometimes with very good reasons for using them (including cost and logistics).

No, as usual FilmLight is showing the way forward and those "other companies" just sitting on their butts and waiting to just copy Filmlight's ideas. FilmLight allows you to use their transform based tools AS WELL as traditional LUT based workflow, where "others" still clinging to just the old inferior workflow. FilmLight spent a lot of their time and energy developing the most advanced workflow in the industry and slowly people starting to pay attention. ACES and transforms is what will be used moving forward because of efficiency and superior quality.
