  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hello everybody, this might be a silly questions but I'm very confused about this topic.
I've a short film color corrected with extended values in 10bit linear. (my values go all the way down to 0 and whites might reach 1023 or a little below).
Now I exported some clips and I have a few problems. IF I export prores 422 HQ I have a shift of the values and clipping (I guess because the prores cuts everything below 64 and above 954). If I export dnxHD I can choose to export Extended Values or legal. Cineform exports the exact values I have, in this case extended.
Now for this project I need to export 2 different files:
1-prores hq or 444 for a master in FCP to be converted in the future for different purposes (Bluray, web etc)
2-DPX sequence for archive and future TAPE master HDCAM

now what I should do? export legal values for both? is it going to look washed out on a computer monitor? Thank you but I'm really confused
also, does somebody have some 1d luts for simple translation from extended values to legal and reverse?

Thanks again. I didn't post in any software specific subforum because I think this is a general question

maybe use full range DNx inside a Qt wrapper for the FCP deliverables?

thank yuo for the quick response.
My concern is when they are going to import this dnxhd quicktime in FCP is going to be converted and clipped? Not sure how to wrap mxfs in to movs....
