Dear all,
Actually, what are the main differences between Lectrosonic ucr411a vs ucr401?
In terms of quality, which one is better?
Also, in B&H order page, there are many differences frequency blocks. What does it mean by frequency block? I have a feeling that it deals with different countries' radio rules. Can anyone give me some advices, please?
Thanks in advance.
King

Frequency blocks deal with the range of frequencies each country allows wireless lavs to operator over. Some blocks are no longer legal in the U.S. As to the differences between the two units, I cannot say.

audio quality - same
the 411 has a bit advantage with its better front end filters what helps you with better reception in polluted with RF environment , or being in close range to another RF source ( aka, transmitter in your bag which carry the signal to your camera ).

another difference is the 411 has ability work with external antennas , the 401 has fixed antennas .

fq block - its the fq spectrum your equipment have ability receive or transmit , lectrosonics equipment mostly divided to 25.6 MHz blocks between 4xx-9xx MHz
about what fq block to use , check with sound mixers or rental houses what do they use without problems - and use the same

Thanks, Stephen. Is it possible for me to find out which blocks for which countries?
Thanks in advance.

King Cheung, scroll back 9-12 months ago in this Audio section and you'll find that Blocks 27, 28 and 29 (maybe 26) can no longer be used in the US. NOTE: This pertains only to U. S. usage, not the world. These frequency blocks have been given to other uses like emergency communications and other non-private use. There are several very accurate articles in the Audio section on what Blocks can now be used. NOTE 2: Where you are is also important in choosing what blocks to use since certain areas are notorious for poor RF reception.

Tim, it is very informative.

I wonder how can I have the information about blocks?

Thanks.

If you're talking about Lectrosonics blocks, here's a link to their chart:

http://www.lectrosonics.com/europe/images/PDFs/precoordwebver.pdf

The UCR-411a has a tracking front end, and the UCR-401 does not; the 411 is more costly. Me personally, I think it's worth the extra money. I also think it makes sense to use a good log-periodic (aka sharkfin) antenna when possible, which will further improve reception.

If you're outside the U.S., send an email to Lectrosonics customer support:

sales@lectrosonics.com

and ask them what frequencies are legal in your country. They can also sometimes advise which blocks are most crowded in certain cities.

Much of Lectro block 27 is still legal. All of block 26 is legal.

there are about 50 channels still available, I have a block 27 and have no troubles.
