I found this nugget of a text in Kodak's press release for their new super 8 camera:

" The Kodak Super 8 Revival Initiative reaches far beyond the introduction of a new camera. The company has built a roadmap that includes a range of cameras, film development services, post production tools and more. "It is an ecosystem for film" "

Range of cameras??? Does this mean new 16mm and 35mm cameras? Has anyone heard any rumours? Seems to be too much of an investment to just stick to the super 8mm format.

They have been granted a substantial amount of support, mainly form a hand full of known names, which in turn bring industry players in to the game...

According to the numbers I have been made aware of thru some interesting communications while talking about one of my projects of interest, it is very possible that we'll see some truly interesting development from Kodak & company, the stress here goes on "company"... :)

I sure hope this Film ecosystem if ecological.

The Kodak comeback tour seems a bit ill fated for such a niche market. Curious how they will be able to on ramp an analogue device and media. Who's the market, hobbyist? 50ft=8-10min - Film stock, processing, transfers? Makes the cost of RED media feel refreshing.

I think 8mm resolves at or below 720p. So I curious how they will couch the value proposition in the marketing message. What will Kodak offer that the general population cant already do with the average smart phone? If I'm Kodak stockholder, I'd be not to keen on the plan. From the outside, looks like a high volume, low margin position.

This sounds like a Ghost Dance to me. The last hurrah from a once giant leader before it fades completely away into the horizon.
