I was planning on waiting to pick up my new comp after scarlet was released but current projects required an upgrade right now so what the heck! Anyway, the comp consists of:

Window 7 Ultimate - 64bit
Intel i7 930-2.8ghz - Watercooled :):)
6gb Corsair Dominator ram
Gigibyte UD3 motherboard-usb 3.0-esata-yadayada
3.5 tb of space- should be enough :)
antec p183 case
750w corsair power supply
generic dvd burner
Ati 5850

All tests done on Adobe Creative Suite CS4

The comp im upgrading from had a Q6600-2.4ghz, 4gb ddr2 ram and crossfire ati 4870's. I overclocked the cpu in this comp to 3.4ghz with a monster air cooler.

I didn't realize the shear power of the i7 till i did my first test. I was astonished. With the old quad core oced to 3.4ghz, my one hour video, consisting of 3 streams of native AVCHD video along with effects rendered in about 15 hours. I ran a small scale test of the same thing with the i7 and my render time plummeted to 4.5 hours.

Then i overclocked the i7 from 2.8ghz to 3.8 ghz and my render time dropped to 2.5 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOLY CRAP! during the render I'm using about 5.2 gbs of ram and about 80% cpu. I'm incredibly pleased with the cpu.

On another note, i will be picking up a cuda card for cs5 when it comes out but does anyone know if i can have my ati 5850 in one pci-e slot and the Quattro in another? And have them working separately?

The main reason i bought the ati 5850 is for the eyefinity technology. il be running 3 screens in the near future and this is great for that.

For those of u interested in gaming frame rates, the ati 5850 is stupendously fast. Every game i have (a lot) will play absolute max easily hitting 100fps+. Absolutely fantastic.

I have no doubts that this machine will handle scarlet footage without issue - scarlet 2/3 that is.

End Cost without Hardrives - $1620 canadian.

Upgrades soon to come....

64gb ssd to install OS and Adobe programs on.

Another 1 Tb HD to raid with my other one to hold editing footage- scratch disks and so on

6Gbs more ram to make 12- il make use of it for sure.

Quattro later on.

Thanks for reading guys! let me know what you guys think!
