I would like to deeply thank you for the awesome digital ride. A 3k camera for that price, jaw dropping, But please lets talk.

I know you dont want scarlet to compete with Red, fine, smart business move.
But we can possibly add a couple of more features that can drop even more jaws, double the profit, and have a very LARGE market.

They are, a better shoulder mount body.
24bit Audio
Interchangable lenses
Wider aperture sizes

Now charge us $7-$10,000

I still believe Scarlet smokes any camera in that price range, no doubt about that. I'm not whining about the scarlet but i believe it can almost completely own that market.

P.S. thank you JIM for f&$%$ing up the industry.

Wow. After all the speculation, all the guessing, bickering and fun about Scarlet, at the end, there is no Scarlet. Well there is and there isn’t, what we are looking at in the pictures seems to be only a mock-up. What a way to build up expectations to then say it will take a year to market. In a year many things can develop with other companies coming out with very close o better cameras than this. Especially now that they know the basic specs. No wonder Panasonic introduced so many new cameras and upgrades at NAB. It showed they knew there was not going to be any competition from Red, at least this year. They are working very hard in upgrading the capabilities of their CCDs and all. These Japanese know what they are doing. We beat them in World War 2 but they sure beat the hell out of us in photo technology and more.
I would love to have Scarlet now but can’t, but the good thing is that by this time next year we might have so many different cameras from the big guys competing in this category that the choices will be better.
Scarlet supposedly won’t have sound and that makes it a bit difficult for some filmmakers. Also the workflow is still developing with Raw. In addition as it stands now you will need a heck of a computer to edit and render. And also with the addition of the Epic camera things at Red are going to be very complicated in the near future. Let us all hope they come out winning at the end as they should.
Scarlet, will meet you next year. In the meantime let’s go back to my beloved HVX200.

(sigh).

Yes, Scarlet will have sound. That was just a rumor started by someone who took the lack of sound on the spec sheet too seriously. Strange, since a lot of other stuff was missing from that spec sheet.

I have to admit I was a bit surprised at the long wait time for availability. My position yesterday night was wondering if Scarlet would be sufficiently affordable to be a possibility for my budget this year, and figuring it would not be and I'd be vaguely depressed seeing a $7k camera I couldn't afford.

Instead, Scarlet was exactly what I would have wanted - to be honest, I appreciate the convenience of a single zoom - and it came at the lowest price I could have hoped for. But not being able to buy it this year is a real bummer.

Until then the HVX will keep lurking. I totally support the Scarlet and hope Red will come on top too, but just like you im wondering what will come out by the time Scarlet arrives. But then again, Jim can surprise us and make Scarlet way better than anything out there in that price range.

With 3 cameras going at the same time is going to be a big juggling act for Red. For a developing company like them it will be quite a task. Scarlet at the lower end of pricing would become a huge seller and its manufacturing could become a complicated affair. I guess that is why they calculate almost a year to start selling them.

I have to admit I was a bit surprised at the long wait time for availability.

I think the Red team have learned a lot about announcing product schedules from their experience with the Red One. That is, don't be too optimistic.

I have a feeling that Scarlet is MUCH further along in its development then Epic likely is. I believe Jim had posted earlier that they don't to start shipping Scarlets until they can ship them en masse -- I bet a good part of this wait will be them building up inventory.

$3K is good for what they are offering, especially if they can give the mounting handheld kit in the price. This is in the nobrainer price range for a Lot of professionals, and better range for hobbyist.
