We often receive footage from our clients as a bunch of HDDs (up to 40 drives in a cardboard box!) We're looking for a device, sort of a docking station, that would allow us to conveniently connect as many HDDs as possible, simultaneously, to a single Mac Studio machine, so we could transfer their contents to our internal RAID systems, as fast as possible.

All docking stations I've found so far have no more than 5 slots. Ideally, we'd like 10 or more.

I have an idea to get a cheap rackmountable JBOD chassis, such as this (doesn't really matter what brand):

...and hook it up to our Mac Studio using an Thunderbolt Mini-SAS port adapter, such as RocketStor 6661A-mSAS2:

My question is, would that work? Will macOS recognize these drives in Disk Utility? Will I be able to monitor their SMART params?

I'd appreciate other ideas as well.

Thanks
