Okay - I am doing this as a TEMP "stop-gap" solution to get a list out there for folks of how many independent (non-Studio financed) features films are shooting, or have already been shot on the Red. Please email me details of features I don't know about and I'll add to this list. PLEASE put "THE LIST" in the subject line and email me at mark (at) OffhollywoodStudios.com - and I will do my best to update the list quickly. Let's avoid films not yet shooting. I grabbed these titles from threads here - so I am sure this list will double over night - and there must be several overseas - so email me! Please send IMDB link or website link for the film.

good idea Mark. Its good to hear what the real world is doing out there.

The Red Canvas

The Red Canvas

Great idea Mark!

For the last five months we've been working on one of the first independent features ever shot on RED ONE ... we're just in the middle of finishing and grading the 95 minute movie as we speak.

'The Red Canvas' is a high-action Mixed Martial Arts Movie ... shot on two REDs during the Fall of 2007 ... RED #14 and #41.

The DP, Aaron Platt, did a great job capturing the drama and the fight scenes. It's being edited in FCP ProRes422 and we've just done a film-out test from the 2k DPX files to Kodak film print that looks stunning! We've screened filmout material from Genesis in our DI theater and the RED filmout looks just as good ... for certain scenes I would say even better.

Here's the link to the write-up we've just done on the workflow we specifically developed for the RED imaging pipeline ... we call it DI-flex and it makes the most of RED RAW plus Final Cut Studio plus SCRATCH. This camera really is revolutionary in terms of price and image quality.

Ted Schilowitz was in here on Friday checking out the movie ... watch this space for more news to come ....

Regards,

extraordinary guys! cant wait to see the finished product!

“The RED raw images
from the camera are amazing and a
creative joy to color grade,” notes Peak.
“There’s so much color information in the
.r3d files I can push them where ever I
want. Projecting the RED digital version
next to the filmout version gives you a
direct visual comparison of exactly how
stunning the RED ONE digital camera is.
The graded digital files as well as the filmout
maximize the excellent cinematic
capabilities of the RED ONE camera.
Independent filmmakers are now in a
position to show the world that their
movies can look as good as a studio film
shot on 35mm.”

Very encouraging! Thank you

If all goes well, I'll be directing a feature in the fall/winter with #3127 from a screenplay I'm finishing as we speak.

Any Atlanta cinematographers out there?

I'll add to this list just as soon as my financing comes through!

In the meantime, I'm going to be doing a few music videos for some unsigned bands I'm friends with.

Here's a thought - how about instead of just having a Reduser thread on this we create the RMDb (that's Red Movie Database). Would be a great resource to find DPs, post houses, whoever else you need that have Red experience and whose work you've seen and like. I would suggest including music videos (I always wondered why IMDb doesn't include music videos).

"Tossed and Found"

"Tossed and Found"

"Tossed and Found" is an independently-produced romantic comedy being filmed in western Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri this coming summer using two RED One cameras. The film is the first effort by NEVER2LATE Productions and likely the first RED production in this area.

RED CANVAS question

RED CANVAS question

Looks like Holllywood DI have the whole post path worked out , however in the RED CANVAS post info pdf on the website it says
"For the RED filmout test, Peak and Platt graded some of the key scenes using Apple’s COLOR and then converted the ProRes 422 footage to DPX files using the SCRATCH system. "
I'm wondering was this the process only for the film out tests ? Was the final grade done in Scratch from the R3d files, or in Color from the Prores files?

I'm currently working out / testing the final post path for our independent feature ( 80% shot on RED ) and very interested to hear about other peoples successful post paths.

To add to the list...

I'm working with Lyn Moncrief (The DoP of Asylum Seekers) on his second all RED feature being shot on #194 tentatively titled, "Beyond the Mat".

It's looking great.

Well I guess Lyn liked the RED eh?

Please give him my best and tell him to break a leg!!

Folks - I am up to 18 indie feature films shot on RED.

How long has RED been shipping cameras? 6 months?

Just watch his number skyrocket as we head into the warm weather -

Mark,

I just saw the trailer for Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Undead. I really liked it and the entire crew here can't wait to see it.

Well done.

"My Bloody Valentine"

I'm pleased to report that among other cameras RED #851 and RED #852 will be part of the rigs, both mounted in one 3D configuration shooting mode, will post some photos next week when the rig is finished.

BTW, this is an Indie film, but still has a 10 to 12Mil. budget, I personally don't watch Horror movies, ( I won't sleep if I did) but this 3D movie shot with RED will be something that I will be following closely.

Congrats Ketch!

Congrats Ketch!

Thanks Mark,

but in all fairness the true congrats go to my friends at Paradise.FX, as this is entirely their project, my modest association on this one is limited to the supplying of two of my RED's (#851 & #852) as well as few LED fixtures from my associates at LEDz.

Can't post yet but soon I'll post, and the congrats, this time will be indeed for me, as we are currently in the developing of the first of "NINE" Features for "Live Chronicles of KETCHROSSI" all Independently Produced by my company KETCHFRAME in collaboration with Paradise.FX and hopefully with the same participation of Lionsgate, one of my favorite Independent Producer and Distributor.

I must say that Lionsgate does love RED, and my hopes with this company collaboration are very high.

RED is indeed changing more then just the Landscape of filmmaking.
